Audi’s new app uses augmented reality to replace the manual

Audi has released an augmented reality app called eKurzinfo that replaces the owners manual for both the Audi A1 and the A3 sedan. The app can tell owners of the cars information about basic functions simply by pointing a smartphone’s camera at it. For example, if you had never seen the Audi’s temperature gauge and fully understood what it did then the app will explain that when the LEDs reach the top part of the display, the engine temperature is too high and it will even show you where to refill the coolant under the bonnet.

While the first release of the app could only identify 65 parts, the latest version can identify over 300 from the insignias on the windshield wipers to individual engine components.
