New York Times votes Cape Town the best place to visit in 2014

In recognition of its rich culture, history and natural beauty, Cape Town has been voted by New York Times as the number one Best Place to Go in 2014.

The Mother City beat out 51 other places from around the world including Perth, Taiwan, Yorkshire and even Dubai.

New York Times described the city as “a place to meditate on freedom and the creative life that followed,” in reference to the role the city played in the life of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela during his incarceration as well as its vibrant design and artsculture.

Other African places that made it to the list are Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Namibia, the Seychelles, the Laikipia Plateau in Kenya and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
