MyEdit is a fairly new local entertainment app that was launched late last year. It curates content from a wide range of your favourite local magazines and newspapers such as YOU, Drum, FinWeek and Beeld, as well as international news, blogs and websites. Once you’re a regular on MyEdit, the app will suggest articles suited to your likes and tastes according to content you read the most.

Comics by ComiXology is like walking into a virtual comic store filled with more comics than you can count. The app brings you over 30 000 from various publishers such as Marvel, DC, Boom! Studios and more. Comics range from around $0.99 to around $19.99, with a few comics free of charge. Once you buy a comic, you can read it anywhere, anytime, offline, so it’s yours to keep.

If you’re looking for popular blockbuster movies, then SnagFilms is not ideal for you, but more suited to those who are into indie or feature films and doccies. SnagFilms offers independent movies that you can watch from the app for free (you do of course need to have strong internet and lots of it). You can save your favourite films and watch them again, but because you’re not downloading, you can’t watch offline.
