Facebook pointing users towards Messenger as it starts killing in-app chats

Three months ago, Facebook announced it would be killing off chats in all its apps, meaning users would have to download Facebook Messenger to send and receive their messages on mobile.

If you don’t already have Facebook Messenger, you may have seen a message in the app or received an email advising you to download the app as it’ll now start moving messages out of the app.

“Soon, we’ll start guiding you to get started with Messenger. After a few days, you’ll also see a reminder notice in the Facebook app, where you’d normally see your messages. At that point, we’ll ask you to install Messenger… You’ll still see new message notifications in the Facebook app, and it’ll be easy to switch between Facebook and Messenger,” Facebook says.

All your messages and contacts will appear on Facebook Messenger after you’ve installed it, and you’ll still be able to send and receive messages on the Facebook website.

You can download Facebook Messenger for Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.
