Voice-to-text conversion coming to Facebook Messenger

While Facebook Messenger continually grows as users slowly adapt to using it to access their messages via mobile, the company is exploring ways of making the service better for its 500 million+ active users. One of the ways the company is looking at doing that is by testing out a voice-to-text conversion feature.

Facebook Messenger’s vice president David Marcus announced on his page that the firm is rolling out a small test that allows users to convert voice clips sent to them by their friends into readable texts, which may be helpful when you’re somewhere where you can’t take any calls.

“Our plan is to test this feature at a tiny scale for now and we’re looking forward to seeing what you think of it before making the experience more widely available,” Marcus said.

Naturally, voice-to-text conversions don’t always work perfectly because of various factors such as pronunciation, ambient noise and accents, but it’s still a pretty useful feature to have.
