Payments Dragon’s Den competition to unearth Africa’s next big mobile payment innovation

Do you have an idea you think could be the next M-Pesa, Snapscan or something even better? Then you just might be what Nigerian techsite and friend of htxt.africa TechCabal and Startup Bootcamp are looking for.

The online tech blog and startup accelerator are joining forces to host the Payments Dragon’s Den competition, in which African startups will pitch their mobile payment solutions for the chance to receive funding from retailers, transport operators, local government authorities, banks, MNOs, corporates, gambling operators and the like and commercialise it.

“This is an exciting, energetic format for showcasing your product to an audience of industry thought leaders. Not only will you be able to hear questions and feedback from the industry but you are also in an arena which enables you to directly answer these,” say the organisers.

The competition will take place during the 2015 Mobile Money and Digital Payments Africa conference to be held in Johannesburg from 19th to 21st May at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Rosebank.

Three startups will be selected as finalists and will each be given 10 minutes to pitch and have a 10 minute question and answer session with judges and the audience.

“The competition is open to all payments startups across Africa, and the deadline for applications is Friday 10th April, 2015,” says TechCabal.

No cash prize is guaranteed for the winner, but there will be wealthy “Dragon” investors in the audience looking for something to catch their breath.

To enter, send an overview of your startup to zehra.chudry@clarionevents.com.
