Who is the SABC’s new CEO James Aguma?

The SABC has named James Aguma as its new group CEO.

This comes just one day after former Acting CEO, Jimi Matthews, resigned from the public broadcaster.

In case you’re not aware of his past accomplishments (we weren’t), we’ve put together this handy fact sheet on the James Aguma.

Place of birth

Aguma is originally from Uganda. He was born on 29th June.

Qualifications

Aguma is a qualified chartered accountant, with Finance, Accounting, Corporate Governance, Audit and Internal controls qualifications from Uganda’s Makerere University (1988 – 1991) and the University of Cape Town (1996 – 1998).

Aguma is also a registered assessor with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and holds a certificate in Rough Diamond Grading and Assessments.

Previous employment

Aguma’s most recent position was as Chief Financial Officer at the SABC from January 2015. Prior to that, he was acting CFO at the public broadcaster from March to December 2014.

Between March 2013 and March 2014, Aguma worked as the SABC’s General Manager of Strategic Support.

He’s also worked for the Auditor General and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
