LEGO Worlds now has online multiplayer

LEGO Worlds, has just been updated with a multiplayer mode.

The game is a Steam Early Access title which has been available to buy in its “in development” state since June 1st, 2015.

This update allows you and a Steam friend to play in each others’ Worlds (think Minecraft’s Maps). The announcement promises the abilities to “race, build, explore, destroy, paint, decorate and battle”.

Check it out in action:

This hasn’t been added to the game as of yet, but you can access it by opting into the Beta. You can do so by following these instructions:

In the Library, right click on LEGO® Worlds and choose ‘Properties’. From here go the Betas tab. In the drop down menu, select the ‘Beta’ option. Allow your game to update . Load up LEGO Worlds!

We updated our copy of the game and, if you want to do the same, keep in mind that the update is 377.6 megabytes. With that downloaded, run it and you’ll find the option to join an online game in the Settings menu.

Also included in this update is a “Grapple Gun” which you can see in play in the trailer, as well as a first person camera. There is also a host of smaller updates including ambient occlusion and road tiles.

We last played LEGO Worlds in August of last yea. While we enjoyed our time with it, it was clear why this is an Early Access game. The core mechanics of entirely LEGO-built environments and the ability to interact with them are there, but there’s notably very little content. But, seeing as developers are updating it fairly regularly, it seems to be on the right track.
