Project Isizwe wins award for helping bridge digital divide in Tshwane

Project Isizwe has won an international award for its deployment of free WiFi in the City of Tshwane in partnership with South Africa’s capital municipality.

The non-profit organisation was crowned the “Most Innovative City or Government Programme to Bridge the Digital Divide” by the World Broadband Alliance at the inaugural World WiFi Day.

World WiFi Day, which took place on 20th June, is an initiative by WBA to recognise and celebrate the significant role WiFi is playing in cities and communities around the world by driving innovative projects to ‘connect the unconnected’.

The World WiFi Day Awards were launched to award successful case studies around the world that are helping bridge the digital divide.

Project Isizwe was nominated in two of four award categories alongside other initiatives from around the globe.

In November 2015, Project Isizwe and Tshwane received two accolades at the AfricaCom Awards for the TshwiFi initiative.
