Not all Microsoft titles will support Xbox Play Anywhere

This year’s E3 saw a plethora of new games revealed for Microsoft’s Xbox One console, but one of the biggest announcement was the Play Anywhere feature.

Essentially, Play Anywhere will allow players to download games that they’ve digitally purchased for Xbox One to their Windows-based PC at no extra cost.

There wasn’t much clarification at E3 as to which games would be supported by the new function. Microsoft explained in a blog post during E3 that “every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere.”

Well… it seems now that the company might have quietly changed their tune, as the same blog post has been updated with slightly different wording.

The blog post now reads: “Every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store.”

At first glance the wording might seem identical, but we bet that you have missed the inserted part of “that we showed onstage at E3 this year”. You did, didn’t you?

It might not be the end of the world, if you think about it.

While we were under the impression that all future Microsoft titles will support Play Anywhere, there could have been a slight hitch with some of the titles.

Also, what happens if a title is launched on Xbox One exclusively, with no PC game in sight?

Our bet is that somebody during E3 got a little too excited about the prospect of a two-for-one special to the point that they left out some vital information.

Just to refresh your memory, some of the titles that will be compatible are Gears of War 4, ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Halo Wars 2 – to name a few.
