Now you can pay for Showmax using Vodacom credit

TV and movie streaming service Showmax has teamed up with mobile network Vodacom in an interesting scheme to bring internet video subscriptions to the masses: you can now pay for your Showmax sub by adding it to your Vodacom account. What that means, says the company in a statement issued today, is that potential customers without credit cards can now access Showmax.

Importantly, pre-pay customers as well as those on contract will be able to take advantage of this payment method. So long as they have enough airtime loaded when the monthly sub is due, the account will be deducted accordingly.

A similar scheme was previously launched in Kenya.

The option to pay for Showmax’ Premium at R99 a month via your phone bill is being launched alongside a new bundle at half the price called Showmax Select. Select offers a reduced library focussing on local shows, and limits subscribers to standard definition streams (which the firm argues is more appropriate for mobile viewing anyway). Select subscribers can still download shows for offline viewing.
