Telkom merges business brands into BCX

Eighteen months after the acquisition process of Business Connexion began, Telkom’s Business unit has been formally brought together under a single brand, BCX.

The new division will sit alongside Telkom Retail and Openserve as one of the three key pillars of Telkom’s corporate make-up, and will be headed by forcer CEO and co-founder of Business Connexion Isaac Mophatlane.

At the same time, Mophatlane says that the firm has completed the consolidation of its offices into a new HQ building near the Telkom campus in Centurion. The BCX data centre will remain at its current home in Midrand.

While the administrative elements of the integration are more or less complete, Mophatlane says that the firm is still working hard to build its own unique culture within the Telkom group.

“We’re not old Telkom and we’re not old BCX,” Mophatlane says, “It’s a new BCX customer and we’ve invested a lot in this.”

Historically, Telkom Business specialised in infrastructure provision for large enterprise clients, while BCX’ was a carrier neutral provider of cloud and IT services.

Small business customers who have accounts for LTE or fibre will likely stay with Telkom, says BCX’ Jacques Loubser, those who have greater demands will all eventually be migrated to BCX.

Telkom has several business oriented programs such as the Future Makers startup accelerator and the Chair in Digital Business at Wits, which Loubser says won’t be being rebranded. BCX will take over sponsorship of some programmes, however, including the recently launched Telkom Cycling Team.
