Oh Platinum Games (or is it PlatinumGames?). You do know how to brighten up our week.

Following the PC port of the Osaka developer’s superb hack ‘n slash adventure Bayonetta last month, Sega has announced that a PC port of Platinum’s equally superb third-person shooter Vanquish is in the pipeline. In fact it’s arriving later this month. On May 25th, to be exact.

“It was great to see the positive response from our community to the Bayonetta PC launch last month, and we are pleased that we are in a position to be able to announce Vanquish, another of our highly requested back catalogue titles,” said John Clark, Senior Vice President of Commercial Publishing for SEGA Europe.

“There’s more to come from SEGA in this space, so stay tuned for further announcements.”

Does this mean we’ll be seeing further ports from PG’s stable in the near future, like Anarchy Reigns, MadWorld or even Bayonetta 2? We can only dream.

For those who care about such things, Sega has announced that the PC port will run at 60FPS but will include unlocked framerates, so if your PC can support it, you can juice the framerate to 144FPS.  The game also has an enhanced PC graphics options with unlocked resolutions up to 4K, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, SSAO lighting, scalable texture and shadow quality, and more. Oh, and it supports mouse and keyboard interface.

If you never played Vanquish back in the day on either the Xbox 360 or the PS3 (and really, what’s the matter with you?), the game mixes up cover-based third-person-shooter mechanics set at a breakneck pace and on scale that’s simply mind-blowing. The plot – involving Russians taking over an orbital weapons platform and blasting holes in the USA – is suitably bonkers and while the dialogue is stupid as hell, the action comeS so thick and fast, players will likely not notice.

Vanquish is face-meltingly good. Yes, it will melt your face. You can play it with no face. That’s how good it is.

We’re willing to be that our esteemed staff writer Clinton Matos will be prepared to fight our other writer in the street to review this – much as he did with Bayonetta.
