E3 2017 – Bethesda’s Keynote: Everything you need to know

This was the third year that Bethesda hosted a keynote at E3 and the Maryland publisher continued its unbroken winning streak.

While expectations were muted ahead of its presentation, Bethesda announced two new games and some amazing additions to titles already in the market. This was superb stuff from beginning to end. Have a gander:

DOOM and Fallout 4 are getting the VR treatment

Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax may have spent a lot of time (and money) in court recently suing other companies over VR, but that’s obviously not where its interests in the technology end. At its BE3 press conference the publisher announced that two of its games are set to receive VR enhancements.

Yes, players will soon be able to enjoy both DOOM and Fallout 4 with Virtual Reality. There’s no word yet if PS VR owners will be able to enjoy either of these offerings at this stage, but Oculus investors have to be feeling more than a little smug. Would you like to play Fallout 4 in its entirety? Yes please!

Skyrim is coming to the Switch

After a couple of announcements concerning The Elder Scrolls: Online (Morrowind the new expansion is already out) and new content for The Elder Scrolls: Legend (Skyrim based), Bethesda threw a bone to Nintendo fans. A big bone. A very big juicy bone boasting a lot of meat.

Yes, after threatening as much ahead of the Nintendo Switch’s launch, Bethesda is bringing Skyrim to the Switch and as an added bonus it looks like players will be able to tackle the game with Link. That is, if they’ve become bored with Breath Of The Wild, which is damn near impossible.

Dishonored 2 is getting some DLC

It’s been a while coming but Dishonored 2 is getting some new content called Death Of The Outsider.

Players who finished the base game will recognise Bille Lurk from the trailer – she was the captain of the Dreadful Whale (as Megan Foster) in the main adventure – and it looks like she has her knives out for Dishonored’s most shadowy character. This content drops this September.

The Evil Within 2 looks creepy as hell

Horror fans in need of a fix this year have something special to look forward to as Bethesda has announced a sequel to The Evil Within. The trailer makes this bad boy look as creepy as hell, even though it looks like someone went crazy with milk in certain sections.

This one wasn’t much of a surprise, since the game was pretty much outed by some eagle-eyed gamers earlier this year. Still, it’s nice to have it confirmed. It’s out on Friday the 13th of October, because of course it is.

There’s a new Wolfenstein on the way

In a trailer that looked like the set up for a new Fallout game – featuring grainy visuals, retro fashion and the US heartland – Bethesda announced the return of BJ Blazkowicz, nazi exterminator extraordinaire. (He’s also popping up in the new Quake game).

For Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, BJ returns to an occupied United States and wreaks havoc on the Nazis. Because, well, that’s what BJ does. This puppy’s out at the end of October this year.
