Excellent party Rogue game Crawl coming to the Nintendo Switch

The genre-mixing game Crawl is making the jump to the Nintendo Switch on 19th December after launching on PC and the other two consoles earlier this year.

You’d be forgiven for not hearing about the game up until now. Despite its quality it had a very quiet release and was somewhat lost in the rush of big titles in 2017.

Crawl is a local multiplayer game where up to four players take turns playing as a hero delving into a dungeon. The other players get to control the monsters until the hero dies and torch can be passed to the next player. There’s also some rogue-like/lite elements in there to make it different every time.

A recent blog post on developer Powerhoof’s site announces the port and the release date:

We have our Switch version of Crawl all polished up and ready to go, launching just in time for Christmas woo! What a pleasant surprise to have Nintendo put out this perfect little console for local multiplayer! Switch is such a great match for Crawl, and I’m stoked to have a game coming out on a Nintendo console – 12 year old me would totally lose his mind over this, haha ???? Thanks for all the support, we have such a great community around this game, and I hope you have a blast with Crawl on the Switch!!

We’re wondering how some of the mechanics of the game will work on a single Joy-Con, so we’ll have to give this a bash when it’s available. Despite its problems we loved this game when we reviewed it at launch, so hopefully they ironed out some of the kinks.

We also want to know what’s going to happen with Gabe Newell as the Steam billionaire is actually a boss inside of Crawl that you can fight. We hope he remains in the Switch version. Update: Gabe will remain in this version.
