Global blockchain developer backs local Bitcoin wallet provider Centbee

Global blockchain research and development firm nChain group has acquired an equity stake in South African firm Centbee.

Centbee was founded by blockchain expert Lorien Gamaroff and Angus Brown who was previously the chief executive officer at Ebucks.com.

“In addition to providing financial investment, nChain’s research, intellectual property and deep technology expertise will enable Centbee to become a powerful and secure wallet provider which will open up Bitcoin merchant payments to a global market,” Gamaroff said in a statement.

While the Bitcoin wallet (which is due for release soon) is a nice product to add to nChain’s growing list of investments, it’s Centbee’s work with Bitcoin Cash that appears to have attracted the global firm.

“Centbee has one of the most user-friendly Bitcoin wallets and merchant payment solutions we have seen. It smartly embraces Bitcoin Cash because its bigger blocks, low fees and fast transaction network represent the true vision of Bitcoin,” said nChain group CEO Jimmy Nguyen.

nChain appears to be on a Bitcoin Cash binge at the moment. Earlier in January the firm invested in Yours.org, a Bitcoin Cash social network during a $1.5million Series A funding round.

The Centbee Wallet is expected to be available for Android and iOS operating systems in early 2018.
