Back to the original Black Ops with a 3D printed Call of Duty ballistic knife

In anticipation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, maker Ramon Angosto has recreated the ballistic knife weapon which has been seen multiple times throughout the series.

This version is modelled after the original knife as seen in the first Black Ops, and was created by Angosto for a design contest.

He tells us that he did the modelling work in Fusion 360, using screenshots and tutorials for DIY knives as reference.

Printing then took around three hours to make a knife 20 centimetres long, followed by multiple stages of sanding, painting, and then assembly. The handle also features cloth that was run through dirty water to give it an aged look.

For those wondering: yes, this print does actually work with the blade portion shooting out of the handle thanks to three separate springs. Unfortunately Angosto no longer has the print and could not provide us with a video of the mechanism in action.

If you’d like to take on the challenge of making your own, the files to do so are available for free from MyMiniFactory. Make sure to read the description for tips on printing and assembly.

We do have to caution that, if you make yours look as realistic as the one on this page, it’s very easy to confuse it with a real weapon. Best to use it at home, or paint it a bright colour like the recent Nintendo Switch blade.
