Kurzgesagt trolls its fans with a new animation

There’s a lot of video essay channels on YouTube with one of the best being Kurzgesagt and its fully-animated offerings.

The channel has more than six million subscribers with each of its releases being a welcome event.

That’s what makes their latest entry an oddity when you look at the number of dislikes. It’s unusually high and it was even more negative when it was released late last night.

It seems like Kurzgesagt has pulled a bit of the old switcheroo with the title. “3 Arguments Why Marijuana Should Stay Illegal Reviewed” initially sounds like it would be anti-legalisation, but the video holds up the other end of the argument.

While some legitimate reasons to keep marijuana are discussed, it always moves back to the positive effects and why it should be legal.

The title of the video is a bit misleading in this regard (the word “reviewed” was only added to the end later) and the thumbnail is helps that theory along.

We’re not entirely sure why this stance was chosen when the channel is viewed so favourable, but maybe a bit of controversy is always good for clicks.

Regardless of how you feel about this incident, if it can even be called that, we still highly recommend the channel. The recent videos about homeopathy and universal basic income are two great ones to start on, even if they also focus on controversial subjects.

If you wind up a fan like most of us do, you can 3D print the channel’s mascot, the so-called Kurzgesagt duck.
