Petition to add “we live in a society” to the Joker movie gains momentum

Continuing the abuse of Change.org following the petitions to drink the “juice” from the  dark sarcophagus, the internet now wants a meme said aloud in the upcoming Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie.

The phrase “we live in a society” is one part of sarcastic collection of images and catchphrases that have come to be associated with the Joker. It pokes fun at this character’s motivations which are usually parroted by younger people believing it has some deeper meanings. The term “edgy” pops up a lot here.

It has also became intertwined with videogames, the joke here being that people who play games are ostracised for their hobby despite the fact that it’s more popular and accepted now compared to any other time in history.

A petition now calls for Phoenix to say “we live in a society” at any point in the movie and, of course, it has thousands of supporters already.

At the time of writing just over 25 000 people have shown their support for the cause with new people continually flooding in.

“what i have in mind is a scene where the Joker sees a kid in a resturant playing Fortnite on his phone while his grandfather is reading a book (insert book title here). and he looks at them and says “damn, we live in a society”. he may say this line as he looks into the camera thus breaking the 4th wall,” the description of the petition reads.

Of course this is all a bit of harmless fun but we sincerely hope that the filmmakers (or Phoenix himself) will at least acknowledge it with a post on social media or some such thing.
