10 bursaries you can still apply for before the end of January 2019

The 2019 academic year has already began, and prospective students are making their way to the tertiary institutions that have accepted them. Now the question remains about how they will be able to fund their studies, as tuition fees are quite expensive.

There are still organisations that are taking applications for their bursary programmes, designed for students who have shown academic excellence in their 2018 matric results.

Below we will list 10  public and private companies who are still taking on applications for bursaries before the end of January 2019.

National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund

NYDA is a government organisation that helps the youth around the country. They are offering scholarships to students who demonstrated academic excellence in their 2018 matric exams.

The scholarship offers bursaries to students who are pursuing careers in fields such as, Agriculture, Development Studies, Engineering, Geology, ICT, Journalism, Law, Logistics, Pharmacy, Supply Chain Management and Tourism.

This scholarship will fund tuition fees, prescribed books, meals and accommodation.

Closing date: 29th January.

Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) Thapelo Madibeng Bursary

For those of you who have registered at a recognised tertiary institution and are interested in the Construction/ Built Environment, there’s the CETA Thapelo Madibeng Bursary.

The bursary will cover each student to the maximum value of R80 000 per year, and takes care of tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, stationary, meals and accommodation at the residence.

Closing date: 31st January 2019.

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ANTS) Bursary

This bursary will be awarded to students who have been accepted at the Bonaero Park ANTS Aviation Training Academy. These students are studying towards the Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO), Air Traffic Control Office (ATCO) and Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO) fields.

Students will be required to pass all courses for the bursary to continue. The bursary will cover content course tuition fees, shared accommodation, transport meals and a monthly allowance.

Closing date: 31st January 2019 for the April intake.

30th April 2019 for the July intake, and 31st August 2019 for the September intake.

SAICE Patrons Engineering Bursary Scheme (SPEBS)

The South African Institute of Civil Engineering has a bursary scheme for students who are pursuing a career towards a Civil Engineering Degree or National Diploma, and have already completed their first year of study.

The bursary will be awarded to a maximum value of R6 500 per student per semester, the funding is intended to assist students with paying for registration fees, tuition and prescribed books.

Closing date: First semester – 31st January.

Second semester – 31st July.

Webber Wentzel Scholarship

Webber Wentzel is a firm that is offering a scholarship to students who are studying towards a career in law.

The scholarship will be awarded to 10 students to the value of 50 000 each. Students who excel in their studies may be given an opportunity to be employed by Webber Wentzel as a candidate attorney on completion of their studies.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees, prescribed textbooks and accommodation.

Closing date: 30th January 2019.

AAA School of Advertising

The AAA School of advertising is offering students who are registered with their institution an opportunity to win a bursary to the total value (for all students) of over R500 000.

Students need to register and download the application forms.

Closing date: 25th January 2019.

Rand Water Bursary

Rand Water is offering bursaries to students who have completed their first year of study in the following fields – Water Care, Water Treatment and Supply, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Management, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Civil Engineering.

You will need to register on their website to gain access to the application forms.

Closing date: 25th January 2019.

Shoprite

Shoprite offers students who are pursuing careers towards Accounting, Logistics, Information Technology and Retail Business Management, a chance to receive a bursary. Students must have achieved an average of at least 70 percent on their final 2018 matric exams for all bursaries.  

The bursary is worth R70 000 per year.

Closing date: 31 January 2019.

Nanoteq

Nanoteq is offering top achieving students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds bursaries. Students who are pursuing careers in Computer Engineering and Electronic Engineering are only being considered.

The bursary is worth R80 000 per year.

Closing date: 22 January 2019.

Deloitte

Deloitte is offering a bursary to students studying towards a SAICA-accredited Chartered Accountancy Stream degree such as a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences, or Bachelor of Commerce qualification in Accounting (undergraduate or postgraduate).

The bursary is worth R80 000 and will cover tuition fees, prescribed books, and accommodation.

After the completion of their studies ,students are required to complete a three-year traineeship programme with the company.

Closing date: Applications open all year.
