AMD debuts Radeon RX 5700 series as its first Navi GPUs

Computex 2019 kicked off this week, and one of the first companies to showcase their new wares was AMD, with the American outfit debuting their first lineup of graphics cards under the Navi architecture – the Radeon RX 5700 series.

This latest offering is aimed squarely at the mid-range computing space, with Engadget noting that it will likely take on fellow American manufacturer, Nvidia’s, RTX 2020 GPU.

While these new GPUs sport the Navi architecture, if you purchase one, they’ll be no branding on the box alluding to thats specific design, with AMD instead opting to file these ones under the new Radeon DNA (RNDA) banner.

So what are these new GPUs capable of? Well they feature a 7 nanometer design for one, along with supporting PCIe 4.0 and faster GDDR6 RAM, according to the manufacturer. Oddly though there’s no ray tracing on this model, which is a bit strange given the industry’s current obsession with the technology.

AMD also put their latest offering to the test against the Nvidia RTX 2070 in an on-stage demo where the former outperformed its rival by 10 percent while running Strange Brigade.

As always press conference demos should be taken with a pinch of salt, so we’ll have to wait for proper third-party benchmarking before we call in favour of the AMD Radeon RX 5700.

There’s no official pricing on the Radeon RX 5700 just yet, but AMD says it’s slated for launch in select regions come July. We should get more info on the pricing front when AMD is scheduled to hold a Stateside event on 10th June.

With more announcements scheduled for Computex 2019 in the coming week, we’ll have to hold off as to what new hardware you should be spending your hard-earned cash on.
