The art style and unique design of Hollow Knight has inspired countless creators over the years, with one of them being Vegard Jensen, who has recreated many of the game’s characters as 3D printed miniatures.
At the time of writing Jensen has recreated and released 14 different prints, all of which we’ve gathered into this story – 12 are individual characters and the last two are groups.
These characters range from the playable, to NPC to boss and even some which aren’t even in the game such as Isma, which was based on some fan art.
The process of creating these prints, Jensen tells us, starts with deciding on one character and collecting a few reference pictures to work off of.
From here the modelling work in Cinema 4D can begin. As you can imagine, turning 2D art into 3D prints isn’t a perfect process and it requires some guesswork and creative choices to fill in the new dimension.
With a basic model to work with a new challenge comes up when deciding on how to display them – “When picking a pose for the finished character I try to make a mix of a iconic pose and make it more printer friendly. You can see that on a lot of the models that fragile parts often slightly touches other parts of the body to make them more stable,” Jensen says.
When the modelling work is done printing takes place on a Flashforge Finder, the results of which you can see down below.
The characters are sorted alphabetically and you can see how long it took to come to fruition (between modelling and printing) together with the size presented in width X length X height.
Click on the name of each print to be taken to the Thingiverse page where you can download the models for free.
As you can see these are unpainted in raw plastic, so it will be up to the community to break out the brushes to provide some colour to these. All of them were printed in a white filament with one exception in the Void Given Focus, appropriately printed in black.
