How to get the Windows 10 May 2019 update

The latest update for Windows 10 is now available but in order to get it you’ll have to jump through a few hoops first.

The update in question is the unimaginatively named Windows 10 May 2019 update (we’re sure a team of creative thinkers were responsible for that one).

The update brings with it a number of features including a new light theme, a Windows Sandbox and more.

In order to get the update however you will need to go and manually download it.

Hit the Windows key on your keyboard and type in Settings to open up the Settings application. Click or tap on Update & Security and then navigate to Windows Update.

Once in that menu click or tap on Check for updates and you should see a prompt to Download and install now.

If however you don’t see the prompt to “Download and install now” you haven’t done anything wrong. Microsoft has said that it is throttling the roll out of the update.

“You may not see Download and install now on your device as we are slowly throttling up this availability, while we carefully monitor data and feedback,” said Microsoft.

While it’s a bit of pain hopefully this approach to updating means fewer instances of Windows updates breaking PCs.

One more thing to note that is that the Download and install now option is only available to users with Windows 10 version 1803 or 1809 who have also downloaded and installed the updates released on 21st May.
