Nintendo Switch Lite added to class action lawsuit for controller drift

If you were looking to buy Nintendo’s latest handheld gaming device – the Switch Lite – you may want to hold off on that purchase, especially if controller drift is a concern for you.

The Lite’s bigger brother was accused of drift, specially via its Joy-Cons, which prompted a class action lawsuit being filed a couple of months ago, and now it appears as if the Lite is suffering from the same issue.

According to Gizmodo the same firm involved in the Switch class action suit, Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (CSK&D), has received multiple reports of erratic performance form the analog controllers on the Switch Lite, which leads them to believe that Nintendo has not fully addressed the problem that plagued its larger handheld offering.

“CSK&D has filed a class action lawsuit against Nintendo of America, Inc. (“Nintendo”) for claims relating to alleged defects in the Joy-Con controllers that are part of Nintendo Switch gaming consoles,” reads a page on the firm’s website prompting other users who have experienced similar issues to provide their details and a description of the problem.

“The complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, alleges that the joysticks on Joy-Con controllers are defective, leading users to experience drift issues.  Specifically, the complaint alleges that the joystick on the Joy-Con controllers will automatically register movement when the joystick is not being controlled by the user and interfere with gameplay,” it adds.

The Switch Lite was launched locally on 20th September, but we’re yet to hear about any complaints of controller drift from South African Switch Lite users. Our own Clinton Matos also got hands-on with the device, and currently has it for review, so it should be interesting to see if he too has a similar drift experience.

His review of the Nintendo Switch Lite is expected in the coming days.

For now at least, it should be interesting to see what develops from this class action lawsuit, as it could result in being quite costly for the Japanese company.
