Xbox One joins PC as launch platform for reverse horror game Carrion

One of the upcoming games from publisher Devolver Digital is the unique “reverse horror” game where you play as a monstrosity hunting down scientists and soldiers in some secret base. This game, Carrion, was scheduled for a PC-only release in the future, but now the Xbox One has been roped in.

This announcement comes with a very short segment of the game (embedded below) which shows the monster doing its thing with an Xbox logo displayed on a screen.

Devolver Digital provides a bit more information giving us the release date as simply “2020” when the game will launch on both platforms.

Those in the UK will be able to play a bit of the game should you happen to be at the Xbox X019 event in London, kicking off in a few days on 14th November.

The rest of us got our chance to play a limited demo that was uploaded to Steam. This was a limited time event, however, and has since been removed. The only way to experience that now, aside from some less than legal methods, is to watch an upload of a playthrough on YouTube.

We managed to play the demo before it was taken down and had a lot of fun with it. The way the monster moves and destroys everything around it is endlessly satisfying. What we didn’t expect is that the game plays out more like a puzzle, with each room needing to be approached carefully to avoid death.

While you are an amorphous blob capable of many unholy and terrifying acts, you’re not unstoppable as your prey starts using flamethrowers and robot sentries to defeat you. Manoeuvring around all of this, and being fast enough to outrun the enemy defences, is key here.

Based on the 30 minutes we played and the overall interesting premise here, we do recommend that you keep this on on your radar.
