The Matrix 4 given a cinema release date by Warner Bros.

A few months ago we reported on the news that a fourth Matrix film was being made, with many of the original cast reprising their roles and more importantly Keanu Reeves returning as Neo.

The latest bit of news about the project confirms a release date, with The Matrix 4 (official name unknown) expected to reach cinemas on 21st May 2021. Warner Bros. confirmed the date to Variety, along with noting a few more additions to the cast.

Before we mention who will be added to The Matrix 4, another interesting bit of news is that John Wick 4 is slated to release on the same day Stateside, so if you are a big Keanu Reeves fan (and who isn’t), you’ll get your fix in May of 2021. Whether the two projects will cannibalise each other at the box office is unclear, but we reckon the anticipation for a fourth Matrix film will be greater.

Back to casting, with Carrie-Ann Moss the other name from the original trilogy set to join Reeves. Reports suggest Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also be involved with the project. Still no word on the Laurence Fishburne front though, who we’d love to see round out the cast and don his signature glasses and leather trenchcoat as Morpheus again.

With the film’s release a little under 18 months away, this is certainly not the last we’ve heard of The Matrix 4. As for what the fate of Zion, the machines and humanity in general hold, remains to be seen.
