CD Projekt donates nearly $1 million to coronavirus efforts

The company behind the famous Witcher series of games, the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 and the GOG games store – CD Projekt – has pledged a healthy amount of money to the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Marcin Iwinski, co-founder and joint CEO at CD Projekt, took to LinkedIn to make this announcement.

“Collaborating with Fundacja Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy, an established Polish NGO with over 20 years of medical equipment fundraising history, today we donated a sum of 4 million PLN to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Poland,” Iwinski wrote.

At the time of writing 4 million PLN converts to around $962 000 USD (~R16.7 million).

Interestingly that amount is not all coming from the CD Projekt company itself. Two million is from CD Projekt, but the other two million is from the company’s board of directors and major shareholders.

“We’d like to thank all the brave souls who fight for our well-being every day and hope these funds help in your effort to rid us of the virus,” Iwinski adds.

Those who’d also like to contribute to the same organisation, Polish or otherwise, can find the website to do so here.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of this company or the amount being put forward here, every little bit helps to combat COVID-19 or at least keep it at bay.

As CD Projekt is already so beloved in the gaming community for the quality of its games and its generally good consumer practices, this act can only enshrine them further.
