Dimension Data launches Saturday school programme in Port Elizabeth

Having already helped 2 000 students in Gauteng, local systems integrator and managed services provider Dimension Data has launched a new Saturday School programme.

This time the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programme will take place in Port Elizabeth.

“Education is a top priority for Dimension Data. Given the immense success of the programme in Gauteng and the growing challenges experienced across the South African public-school system, we are proud to announce that we are expanding to other communities,” Says Dimension Data Middle East and Africa chief executive officer, Grant Bodley.

The Saturday School programme focuses on providing supplementary education with an emphasis on Maths and Science. In addition it also provides learning and teaching resources to students and public high schools across South Africa.

The programme was recognised by the Gauteng Department of Education as one of the top three education interventions in the province. The fact it’s now headed to the Eastern Cape then is good news.

“Saturday School has contributed immensely to the development of our youth. Our students come from humble beginnings to become role models to their peers, and in society. We started with only 11 learners and to date we have touched over 2000 lives of ordinary South Africans,” Saturday School programme manager at Dimension Data, Shakes Makgalemane, said in a statement.

Dimension Data states that the programme has had a 100 percent pass rate in the last 25 years and past students have gone on to become actuaries, engineers and even ICT professionals within Dimension Data.

The expansion to Port Elizabeth is reportedly a pilot programme but Dimension Data says it hopes to expand into more provinces in 2021.
