Microsoft will cease production of current gen consoles

As we wait for the release of the next generation of consoles anybody looking to pick up a current generation console, particularly an Xbox, might want to do so sooner rather than later.

This is because according to a report by The Verge, Microsoft is winding down production of the Xbox One X as well as the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles.

“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge.

The Xbox One S (not the all-digital edition) will still be produced.

While this is sad news it is also understandable.

The Xbox Series X is scheduled for release in late 2020 and Microsoft has to start producing consoles for sale. With the current state of the world we would suspect that production channels are severely hampered and Microsoft has to make a call.

Of course this news doesn’t mean that Xbox One consoles are suddenly unavailable although we have done a bit of digging in that regard.

The good news is that we have found many offers for the Xbox One S locally but the One X is seemingly unavailable at multiple retailers.

This might be because of an increased demand due to the pandemic but with this announcement in mind we don’t foresee those consoles becoming available again all that soon.

Now that we know that the current Xbox consoles are being phased out we can begin saving up for the next generation although we still have no idea how much the console will ultimately cost or its exact date of release.

For anybody who has been on the fence about purchasing these consoles then, perhaps now is the time to pull the trigger.
