Risk of Rain 2 leaves Early Access on 11th August

Roguelike Risk of Rain 2, which famously made the jump to a third person shooter as compared to its sidescrolling prequel, will get its 1.0 launch come 11th August.

This release date has been a long time coming as we’ve known that the game would launch around this time for a while, but a solid day had not been announced.

Risk of Rain 2 was released onto Steam’s Early Access programme on 28th March 2019. When the game launches on 11th August 2020 it will mark just over 16 months in Early Access.

All that time in the cooker has been beneficial, it seems. While it did receive a lot of positive reviews at launch, it’s only become more popular as time has gone on. At the time of writing the overall review status of the game is “Overwhelmingly Positive”, which is Steam’s highest achievement in that regard. 96 per cent of the 61 993 reviews are positive.

“Early Access has felt like a crazy ride through uncharted space, and we can’t thank you all enough for supporting us over the last year and a half. We’ve had great fun steering through Early Access together, and we will always be thankful for the patience and excitement our community has displayed. We will have more information on the Console launch of 1.0 in the future – but it should follow a very similar cadence to the previous console launches,” writes developer Hopoo Games.

According to this roadmap the 1.0 release on PC will come with a new playable character, a final stage with a final boss, and a bunch of new items and equipment.

If you were planning on buying Risk of Rain 2 we suggest doing it now. While the game will likely have a launch discount the price will increase for the final release compared to the current Early Access amount.
