Your next ultra slim notebook packs a mighty punch

The Osborne 1 was a behemoth that weighed a bulky 11.1kgs. It featured a tiny 5inch monitor, 64K memory and a Zilog Z80 processor that ran at a blistering 4MHz. Compared to something like the Huawei MateBook D 15, the Osborne 1 looks like a rock.

Fast forward to a nippy afternoon in July and Huawei has announced a new notebook series that showcases just how far mobile computing has come since the 80s.

The Huawei MateBook D 15 is the latest notebook from Huawei and had you somehow cracked time travel and managed to get one of the engineers working on the Osborne 1, they might just faint.

The MateBook D 15 is an impossibly thin notebook that still manages to cram the latest tech inside its gloriously sleek shell.

These days we have various advancements in computing to thank for the MateBook D 15, including in the most important component, the CPU.

Inside this sleek 15.6inch notebook is AMD’s Ryzen 5 3500U CPU which boasts four cores that can boost up to 3.7GHz, with a power draw of just 15W. That means you’ll be able to accomplish the most demanding of tasks while sipping battery power.

Usually onboard graphics are a slouch, but with Radeon Vega 8 graphics you will be able to take full advantage of the Huawei FullView display.

Of course, in a notebook this sleek cooling is a major concern. Huawei has taken that into account and to tame the thermals of the beastly Ryzen processor the firm has employed Shark Fin 2.0 cooling. This cooling solution crams more fans into the design while also keeping noise to a minimum.

With 33 percent more fans, Shark Fin 2.0 delivers 27 percent more air output and cooling performance.

While gawking at the MateBook D 15, you might note there is no webcam. The thing is, however, there is a webcam, it’s just not where it normally is.

For a few years already Huawei has embedded the webcam in its notebooks into the keyboard. This allows Huawei to make its display a lot bigger as it doesn’t need to contend with bezels big enough to hide a camera. From a privacy standpoint this also means you won’t need to ruin your display with sticky tape to hide the camera’s view from prying eyes.

While we’re talking about security, Huawei has embedded a fingerprint scanner into the MateBook D 15’s power button so that you can get to work quickly but stop others from accessing your important information.

Easy to use

For those of use who spread our lives over multiple devices, being able to revert back to a single pane of glass is a fantastic way to increase productivity.

Huawei Share allows you to connect your smartphone to your MateBook D 15 and transfer files easily. This means you can film a video on your Huawei smartphone, edit it on your MateBook 15 D and transfer it back to your smartphone to post online.

But even when you’re relaxing the Huawei MateBook D 15 is making sure that you’re looked after.

The FullHD 15.6inch FullView display can be stretched out to 4K if you want to kick back and watch a movie on your TV.

If you want to watch on your notebook instead then you can take advantage of Eye Comfort Mode that filters out excessive blue light and reduces eye fatigue.

The Huawei MateBook D 15 is not just a showcase of how far technology has come since the Osborne 1, it’s a testament to what can be accomplished today.

The MateBook D 15 should be your first choice for a new notebook, to find out more, head to the official Huawei Store.
