Android users will have to wait until 2021 for voice tweets

Back in June Twitter began testing a feature which would let users embedded voice clips into tweets. Unfortunately this test is only for iOS users and Android users will likely have to wait longer to test the feature out.

Testing appears to be going well though as the social network announced on Tuesday that it was rolling the feature out to more users with a view to learning more about how people use audio.

“Since introducing the feature in June, we’ve taken your feedback seriously and are working to have transcription available to make voice Tweets more accessible,” Twitter wrote in a tweet.

To that end it’s important to point out the establishing of two teams within Twitter that will tackle the problems of accessibility as regards the social network.

One of the main criticisms of the voice tweet feature is that it lacks transcription which means its inaccessible to those with hearing impairments.

“Beyond staffing our teams, we’re already working to add automated captions to audio and video by early 2021. This lays the foundation for a longer-term roadmap that invests broadly in media accessibility throughout our service,” Twitter said in September.

While the firm didn’t state when Android users could expect voice tweets, it did respond to a user’s question in this thread stating that, “We’re currently working on bringing this feature to Android in 2021.”

The feature will also likely hit the web in 2021 as well.
