Apple bundles its digital services into subscription-based Apple One packages

Earlier this evening Apple held its “Time Flies” event to showcase some new hardware – most notably the Apple Watch Series 6 and newly designed iPad Air. There were also some announcements on the digital side of things as we finally got to see the bundling and initial pricing of Apple One.

This is the subscription-based service that Apple was rumoured to be working on last month, and now it has been revealed to the public.

The setup is fairly straightforward here, with Apple bundling its digital services into different types of packages aimed at a range of consumers. To that end Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+ and iCloud are bundled up in different iterations.

The endgame for Apple One is unknown, but it is more than likely a way for the Cupertino-based firm to get more people interested in some of its other more recent digital services like TV+, Arcade and Fitness+, which may not have the reach that Music or iCloud does.

The company breaks down the different tiers of Apple One as follows:

  • Individual includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage for $14.95 per month.
  • Family includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 200GB of iCloud storage for $19.95 per month, and can be shared among up to six family members.
  • Premier, where available, includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and 2TB of iCloud storage for $29.95 per month, and can be shared among up to six family members.”

As for rollout, it looks like the firm is targeting eventual worldwide availability, but for now it remains limited to selected regions.

“Starting this fall, the Apple One Individual and Family plans will be available in over 100 countries and regions. The Premier plan will be available in Australia,Canada, the UK, and the US, where Apple News+ is available, and Apple Fitness+ will join later this year,” the company notes.

As such we’ll have to wait to see when Apple One will be made available locally and how much it will cost South Africans for the different tiers.
