Google has compiled a mass of digital tools for SMEs into one website

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to reevaluate our lives be that in a professional sense, a personal sense or both.

Unfortunately this introspection has come at the cost of many livelihoods being ruined as a result of lockdowns around the world.

Of course the pandemic rages on around the world but locally a gradual lifting of restrictions means that businesses can operate albeit with some limitations.

Getting around those limitations takes a bit of creativity and something we saw very early on into lockdown – pivoting.

In a bid to assist small businesses with pivoting and perhaps expanding in some instances, Google has created a hub that will help SMEs get online and improve their digital presence.

“Small businesses have been hardest hit during this period. Many of them have had to figure out quickly how to pivot their operations to a ‘digital-first’ approach. Yet, there remains a gap between those who can access these online opportunities and those who can’t. That’s the gap we want to bridge with this initiative,” country director for Google South Africa, Alistair Mokoena said in a statement.

The hub features tools and tips for business owners including how to setup Google My Business.

The search giant has even put together a very simple marketing kit that you can use to create posters though it’s the Market Finder tool that really interests us.

Given that Google has a wealth of data about anybody using its services, you can leverage that data to gain insights into a market.

This could prove incredibly valuable if you are considering a pivot and these insights may just help you decide to take the leap or not.

What’s more is that content from Google’s hub features advice for operating in a COVID-19 world.

Of course you won’t find answers to all your burning questions but this is a good start and everything is located in one spot which is great.
