Huawei Watch Fit available in SA in October, with pre-orders opening on 25th September

Earlier this month, Huawei held its annual Developer Conference where six new device were unveiled to the public. Among them were a pair of smartwatches, with the premium version of its GT 2 edition in the form of a Pro model, as well as a new offering in the Huawei Watch Fit.

The latter did not grab our attention at first, but now it looks like it will be the first among the aforementioned six to arrive in South Africa. 1st October to be more precise, but for now, no official local pricing has been revealed for the Huawei Watch Fit.

We should have a better idea of the RRP on the device later this week, however, with the local Huawei Store set to take pre-orders between 25th and 30th September.

As for why you should consider pre-ordering this device, Huawei is highlighting the 10 days of battery life on offer from a single charge. While this is a little shy of the two weeks we’ve experienced on the Watch GT range, it is still a few days more than we’ve seen on other fitness-focused smartwatch models of late.

While this is billed as a more cost-friendly version (we’ll wait for local details first before we concur) amid Huawei’s smartwatch lineup, it still features many of the sensors that its more expensive brethren sport – namely heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring.

Other notable elements on the Watch Fit include a square-ish 1.64″ AMOLED watch face, as well as 4GB onboard storage and compatibility with iOS 9.0 and higher, or Android 5.0 and better. There’s also built-in GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and BLE functionality, as well as 5 ATM water-resistance (up to 50 metres).

If Huawei can get the price right, the Watch Fit may just be worth it.
