You can now play your Xbox games on your iPhone

Fortnite players who aren’t able to play the game on an iPhone will be pleased to hear they can now play their Xbox One games on the handset, provided they already own an Xbox.

An update for Microsoft’s Xbox App for iOS and iPadOS is being rolled out and the update allows for remote streaming. It’s important to note that this is not xCloud as Microsoft is still trying to find a way around Apple’s request to submit every game available on xCloud individually.

The update also allows you to manage your console remotely and you can install or delete games right from your smartphone.

Players are able to use the streaming feature in their homes or while they’re out and about though The Verge notes that you’ll need an LTE or 5G connection to play on the move. As for in-home streaming, your WiFi connection will work but we highly recommend using your 5GHz band for a more stable experience.

The great news is that this feature will work with the forthcoming consoles – the Xbox Series X/S – as well as the current generation of consoles. Sadly, older Xbox and Xbox 360 games cannot be streamed.

Remote play is a great feature but we do wonder if Apple will ever allow Microsoft to launch xCloud on the service without the frankly ridiculous request that Microsoft submit every game individually as a separate app the uses xCloud tech.

Of course this is ultimately Apple’s decision and if it wants to push gamers to Android where they can side-load apps like Fortnite or legitimately install and use xCloud, we aren’t going to fight them on it.
