Opera’s new Crypto Browser launches in beta for macOS, Windows and Android

If you follow Web3 with any interest you should be aware of the steps that Opera has been making in creating a browser that embraces blockchain and its associated technologies. Now the company has released a new update in the form of its Crypto Browser Project.

It is the first significant update to the Crypto Browser that Opera first announced in 2018, with this latest Project aimed at making access to digital currencies far easier and removing the need of an extension to do so.

For now, the Crypto Browser is in beta, with access available to those with a device running macOS, Windows or Android.

“With today’s step, we are providing our users and the industry with a dedicated Web3 browser, backed by a strong product team and with the aim of accelerating the evolution of the next generation of the Web,” explained Opera in a blog post.

“Too few of the web browsing experiences offered today have been built with the intention of putting Web3 centerstage and making blockchain technologies understandable and easy to use. With the Crypto Browser Project, we have set out to change this, and starting today, we are inviting the blockchain community to join this mission,” it added.

As far as what you’ll be able to do with the new Browser, it will feature a non-custodial wallet that supports blockchains for Ethereum, Bitcoin, Celo and Nervos, with more partnerships set to be announced down the line. There will be support for other wallets should users want it too.

“You’ll also enjoy Opera’s free, no-log browser VPN, native ad-blocker and tracker blocker, but with the added access to Web3 websites and dApps – directly from the browser’s address bar,” the company continued.

“This experience will only get better as we progress towards the official launch of our browser in the coming months and as we add more features including Layer 2 support for growing networks,” Opera concluded.
