Logitech adds two mechanical keyboards to Master Series lineup

If you are a fan of mechanical keyboards, like many in the Hypertext office are, you may want to take a gander at what Logitech has just announced, with two new mechanical keyboards revealed for the company’s creator-focused Master Series.

The two new devices in question are the MX Mechanical and MX Mechanical Mini, offering an option in both full size or smaller keyboard layouts.

Mechanical keyboards is not an area that Logitech has played much in before, but the company says there is a significant interest in the field. As such, it is leveraging some of its knowledge in the gaming peripheral sphere to bring these two new mechanical keyboards to the fore.

“There is a growing community of software developers who fell in love with mechanical keyboards when they started playing games, and now they want the same feeling of precision and control with their professional desktop keyboard,” noted Tolya Polyanker, head of the MX Series for Creativity and Productivity at Logitech, in a press release regarding the announcement.

“MX Mechanical combines the best of both – Logitech’s gaming keyboard expertise with MX Master Series signature experiences,” they add.

On that front, the MX Mechanical and MX Mechanical Mini feature the same kind of switches found on Logitech’s gaming keyboards. The smaller Mini is also 75 percent the real estate of the larger Mechanical.

In terms of switch options, Brown is the de facto here, but Logitech does note that Blue and Red options will be made available depending on the region. We should note that these are a third-party equivalent switches and not those from Cherry MX. In terms of other notable features, both keyboards sport dual-coloured keycaps, smart backlighting in six lighting options, automatic brightness adjustment for ambient light and the ability to switch off for battery consumption.

Regarding the latter Logitech says the battery life is good for up to 10 months from a single full charge if the backlight is kept off. With is turned on the battery life drops to 15 days, which is still quite good.

In terms of pricing and availability, we are yet to find out local details, but Stateside both mechanical keyboards and a new MX Master 3S mouse will be ready to purchase later this month. As for recommended pricing in the US, the MX Mechanical is listed at $169.99 (~R2 678) and the MX Mechanical Mini at $149.99 (~R2 363).
