This year’s Comic Con Cape Town all set for late April at CTICC

  • Comic Con Cape Town is happening for the first time this year.
  • Event organisers have now confirmed the dates for Comic Con Cape Town, as well as the venue.
  • Tickets are now on sale, starting from R160 for a day pass.

In September last year, Comic Con Africa made its return, with an in-person event taking place over three days at the Johannesburg Expo Centre (formerly Nasrec). For 2023, at least the first half of it, Comic Con is heading to the Mother City, with Comic Con Cape Town now confirmed for late April.

Happening over four days, from 27th to 30th April, tickets for the event have already go on sale via Howler, with prices starting at R160 for a day pass and R533 for all four days.

The venue for Comic Con Cape Town is the city’s International Convention Centre (CTICC), which routinely plays hosts to large-scale events, so it should be well suited to handle this upcoming one.

The full lineup of stars that are planned for the event are yet to be shared, but organisers say there is a lot to look forward to come April.

“As a team, we are thankful for the welcoming spirit that the local pop-culture fans have already shown. We are so excited to be bringing Africa’s largest pop culture and gaming festival to the Mother City where visitors get to embrace being themselves, regardless of their cultural background, physical ability, or personal identity,” noted Carla Massmann, show director.

“This is a self-expressive festival where visitors can experience the best in pop culture and enjoy a tangible experience of brands and fandoms. We are striving for a festival and show programme that is as dynamic as the city itself. We want Comic Con Cape Town to ignite the heartbeat of the city all weekend long,” she added.

The organisers have also partnered with a handful of local popular cons for this upcoming one too. To that end, it will be co-located with the Cape Town International Animation Festival, as well as FanCon. As such it will play host over 100 local artists in the Artist Alley.

As we near the event’s doors opening, more announcements will be made as to what will be available to attendees.
