The Xbox One is up to R1 500 off this week only

We have it on good authority from its local distributor that the Xbox One will be on sale this week at a substantial discount of “up to R1 500”. The promotion will run from Thursday 16th June to Sunday 19th June 2016.

Below are the recommended retail prices (RRP) for the consoles during this time period, provided by our source:

RRP for 16th – 19th June

  • Xbox One 500GB console with game – R4 999
  • Xbox One 1TB console with game – R5 499

While no RRP has been provided for the Xbox One Elite, our source specifically mentioned a discount of up to R1 500 off of “marked retail prices”, which includes the Xbox One Elite. These discounts will not apply to Xbox One 500GB Refurbished Consoles, though.

We were told that for the duration of the promotion, shoppers will be able to pick up a console at these reduced prices at brick and mortar stores as well as online retailers.

At Microsoft’s E3 press event, the company unveiled two new versions of this very console. The Xbox One S, a smaller version of the existing machine, as well as “Project Scorpio”. The enigmatically-named console promises to offer 4K gaming capabilities, which implies some seriously powerful hardware lurks inside.

While the One S will be available later this year, Project Scorpio is only coming in Christmas of 2017.

With these new versions ready to fight for shelf space with the original console and its Elite variant, offering the machine at a discount makes sense now. Not only will it help to move old stock, but it provides a cheaper way for new buyers to get into the ecosystem and play the console’s large library of games and its exclusives, which include the fun-but-flawed time-bending adventure Quantum Break.

Happy shopping!
