Vox is bringing Ruckus Wireless to fibre-to-the-home customers

Vox Telecom and WiFi provider Ruckus Wireless revealed that the two companies have formed a partnership to allow Vox fibre-to-the-home customers to make use of Ruckus Wireless equipment on certain bundles.

Vox has standardised its WiFi offerings so that both consumer and business customers can integrate with Ruckus Wireless.

As an example, Vox customers (or new sign-ups) can from 1 August get a Ruckus ZoneFlex R310 wireless access point (AP) when they sign up for a bundle deal. The company explained that this ceiling-mounted AP is one of the best around.

Dederick Venter, executive head of outsourced technology at Vox Telecom, shed a bit more light on the partnership.

“As we are rapidly expanding our services offering into both fibre-to-the-business and to-the-home, we were faced with new WiFi connectivity requirements from our customers and needed a WiFi player that was not only a technology leader, but had an extensive product range to meet our exacting demands from home users right up to enterprise,” Venter said. “We believe we have found that with Ruckus Wireless.”

The Ruckus ZoneFlex R310 wireless AP makes use of 802.11ac WiFi technology, and will be integrated with Vox’s Vobi softphone. It is essentially an app that’s installed on smartphones, and WiFi calls are made through it to most networks – at no extra cost.

“Video streaming, home automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) is growing locally and consumers are demanding a richer experience to take advantage of these value added services, as well as services that were traditionally not available. While fibre provides a foundation for connectivity, it is WiFi that will accelerate digital citizenry in the months and years to come,” said Riaan Graham, sales director for Ruckus Wireless sub-Saharan Africa.

He added that one of the biggest problems for fibre connections is the last interface between a user and the fibre connection – which is why a good AP is needed.

What partnership also allows Vox customers to see their WiFi installation lead time from 45 days to less than 14 days.
