Mercedes using QR codes is no accident

German motor manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, is to start using QR codes on its cars, to aid emergency workers responding to accidents.

QR codes might be the laughing stock of the tech world, but there’s no denying that the digital tattoos store a lot of information in a self-redundant little square. Mercedes aims to use QR codes on its cars so that firefighters, paramedics, and police can instantly pull up schematics for the cars for pneumatic cutters (jaws of life) to be safely used. Firefighters often train, with cars provided by manufacturers, to see how and where a car can be safely cut without rupturing electrical cables, airbags, or running into problems on reinforced crash structures.

As Autoblog reports, rescuers currently have to use printed sheets for specific models. With smartphones becoming more prevalent, and 3G access covering the whole country, it could be a simple solution for saving lives in time,
