SimCity gets new DLC (when what it really needs is fixing)

Released on May 29, 2013, the new Amusement Park Set lets SimCity mayors spice up their towns with theme parks, or start new towns based around tourism with theme parks as the star attraction.

The DLC introduces nine rides, five concession stands and three park entrances that challenge mayors to balance attractions with refreshments in such a way that tourists stay as long as possible in the park, spending their hard-earned cash and filling town coffers. The DLC retails for R89.95, and is available through EA’s Origin digital storefront.

Unfortunately, while the DLC brings new content (new if you’ve never played Rollercoaster Tycoon, that is), it doesn’t address some of the game’s most glaring issues. The space on which to build cities is still severely limited, population numbers are still artificially inflated, there are too few meaningful statistics on which to make strategic decisions and a subway system is still nowehere to be seen. And that’s just the start.

While I appreciate the effort EA is putting into expanding SimCity’s appeal, I’m sure most players would prefer to see bugfixes and the implementation of the features they’ve been clamouring for since the game launched over fluffy content that seems to make the game less a city simulator than it does a theme park management mini-game.
