A whole new Galaxy with Intel Inside

It’s official, Intel has nabbed the processor duties away from ARM for the next generation of Galaxy Tab (at least the 10.1-inch version). The Android 4.2 running Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will be powered by an Intel’s dual core Atom Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz along with 3G and 4G modems from Intel as well. The specs for the tablet are however otherwise rather underwhelming with a 1,280 X 800 resolution display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage with a microSD expansion slot.

The question we’re asking is why Intel and Samsung would approach the market with the Clover Trail+ 32nm Atom processors and not wait the few months until the new 22nm Bay Trail  chips become available? While Intel getting into the tablet space with such a serious product is exciting, I can’t help but think that the underwhelming specs will do little to drive consumers to buy one over a Nexus 10 for instance unless the price is very attractive.

The tablets are expected to start shipping in June.
