BlackBerry Q5 SA Launch Date

The 27th of June, that’s the date you’ll have to wait for if you’ve been holding out for the new BlackBerry Q5. The device will launch this Thursday from Vodacom and will be available for R4 999 cash or on a variety of deals from the red network.

The Q5 is the second QWERTY phone using the new BlackBerry 10 OS after the Q10 launched in May. The Q5 has the same size and resolution touch screen display albeit in IPS LCD form rather than the Super AMOLED of the Q10 along with a 1.2 GHz processor and 8GB of internal storage (expandable of course by microSD card). The Q5 retains the LTE and 2GB of RAM of the Q10 and even manages to cram in a larger battery than its premium sibling while bringing the keyboard style that Curve users of the past will be familiar with.

Vodacom will carry the device in black and white but strangely not in the colour of their network.

Brett Haggard was at BlackBerry Live last month where the Q5 was announced and had some hands on time with the device which you can read about here.

Update 1: MTN have confirmed that they will have the Q5 available from the 1st of July

Update 2: Cell C have also confirmed availability from the 1st of July
