Feedly feeds its own ego

Earlier this year Google announced that it would be shuttering Google Reader, on 1 July 2013. Since then, every smart media company has jumped on the bandwagon to try and offer internet news junkies an alternative to the popular feed reader. None have been quite as successful, though, as Feedly. The company saw exponential growth in the two weeks after Google’s announcement, with millions of former Google users seeking refuge on Feedly’s servers.

Now, the company’s outlined its future. It’s been adding new hardware to cope with the load. APIs and apps have been updated and tweaked. The result of all this is that 68% of users who try Feedly have switched to being weekly users of the service.

Feedly’s also just announced that users of its service who still rely on Google Reader’s feeds will be able to access their feedly feeds from third party apps. This will help them migrate any Google Reader data before the big G flips the switch.

From the ashes of Reader something awesome has risen, and it’s great to see that Feedly’s listening very closely to the voices Google’s ignored during this time: those of the consumers.
