Free Xbox 360 games for South Africans

At E3, last week, Microsoft said that it would introduce a new rewards program for Xbox 360 owners who have a Xbox Live Gold subscription. Through the program, two games a month would be made available for download, for free, until the end of December 2013. Presumably by that time you’d be tired of Xbox 360 games because the Xbox One would be out. Except in South Africa.

At the time of the announcement many noticed that the role-playing epic, Fable 3, had become available as a free download. Microsoft’s said that this is a bonus game in its Games with Gold program, and it’ll be available from the 6th of June until the 30th. From the 1st of July the program – as per the E3 announcement – would kick off with the availability of Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2.

Those free titles, and subsequent releases, will be available on a staggered release schedule lasting two weeks. It’s not clear whether Assassin’s Creed 2 or Halo 3 will be the first game released in July, but whichever one it is will only be up for download, for two weeks. On the 16th of July the other game becomes available.

More importantly – and the question we’ve had since the announcement – is that the games will be available in all Xbox Live regions, which includes South Africa. A small consolation for not getting the new console this year, we guess.
