Intel Bay Trail tablet CPU spotted in the wild

Computex usually has a few gems buried away in booths with strange devices of all shapes and sizes but one of the more interesting finds was a trio of tablets from obscure Chinese manufacturer CZC all packing next gen quad core Intel Bay Trail processors. The range consists of an 8.1, 9.7 and 10.1-inch tablets with the first and last having a display resolution of 1280 X 800. The exciting one is the Retina iPad matching size and resolution of the  B97T tablet which weighs in at a rather heft 750 grams with its 8100mAh power unit. When asked about the battery life of the tablets the manufacturers claim of only 6 hours of battery life for the tablets which will fall well short of Intel’s claims of ‘all day’ battery life for tablets running the new chips.

It could all be a mistake on the part of the manufacturer or simply the fact that the platform is yet to be optimised to perform at the same level as those used in the Intel labs to create their ‘all day’ benchmarks. More worrying from an Intel perspective though may be that the chips are not as frugal as once thought to be and that the 22nm parts will not do as well in benchmarks as their bigger siblings from the Haswell range have managed.
