There are other uses for 3D printers beyond arming the world for free. While the case for a reliable business model based on homebrew printers is still being worked on (there isn’t one yet, and yes we do have a RepRap in the office) the best bet so far is boutique games character creations. By which we mean taking the 3D model of someone’s in-game avatar and immortalising it in PLA plastic. It’s an especially tempting prospect if you have an MMO character you’ve sunk a lot of time and money in to. Like Valcrow has done for MechWarrior Online.
