Last week Sony released update 4.45 for the PlayStation 3, and almost immediately pulled it when users started complaining that the update caused their consoles to hang.
Hi guys, we have identified the issue related to PS3 software update (4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week.

With those users now in limbo, consoles refusing to boot and play games, they’ll have to wait a while longer for salvation: Sony will only release an update for the borked firmware later this week, on the 27th of June. Annoyingly for those, the problem couldn’t come at a worse time: the highly-acclaimed PS3 exclusive Last of Us released just a week-and-a-bit ago.
Curiously, the update (4.45) only added the ability to show Trophy notifications during gameplay. Clearly, adding that functionality was a lot more complex than it sounds.
